Somatic Experiencing
Dr Peter Levine spent decades of his life studying trauma and healing before developing Somatic Experiencing or SE especially for healing the after-affects of traumatic experiences.
Many people come to SE with long term, chronic conditions such as pain, anxiety, IBS, for example, and often already know why they feel the way they do, but they haven't yet had relief from their experiences. Despite their understanding and maybe even various treatments and therapies, certain states, symptoms, and patterns continue.
SE gets under the hood of cognitive understanding and analysis and gets down into the neurobiology. Working with the nervous system, SE supports us in increasing our capacity to stay present in our experience throughout the day. The modality helps support an increased sense of wellbeing, pleasure, and safety in the body through nervous system reeducation.

SE helps us access our body’s innate wisdom and healing capacity, and identify and access the thwarted energy of our own self-protective responses that may have been inhibited during a traumatic event. This can give way to feeling much more energy, vibrancy and vitality.
We learn new ways of relating to ourselves and our bodies, new tools for regulation, and experiences of processing and completing protective, survival responses, giving us more ease and possibility for a more vibrant life.

Somatic Experiencing Touch Work
Somatic Experiencing Touch is a gentle practice combining somatic experiencing and touch work to support the central nervous system in coming back into regulation/security within our bodies.
Touch is a necessary part of our survival and as mammals, we need attuned, respectful touch to thrive. With trauma, touch can feel complicated, scary, or just too much. In SE Touch, the client is always in the drivers seat. Consent is key and together we practice finding our way towards touch that feels good and regulating to your body.
In sessions we are listening for and calling forth coherence. Coherence being the opposite of trauma; trauma is chaos, coherance is steady and rhythmic, peaceful, joyous, and full of vitality. ​​We do this by tracking the breath, muscle tone, blood flow, the joints, the diaphragms & the viscera and bringing loving presence to what arises. We work with my hands on or your hands on and me guiding.
SE Touch can help parts of the body come out of freeze and be particularly helpful after a surgery, inescapable attack, or vehicle trauma. SE Touch can also be really beneficial when working with attachment trauma, boundaries, appeasement patterns, grief & loss and physical pain.
